Blackstone’s National Criminal Advocacy Competition: Congratulations Nicola and Matthew!

Congratulations to Nicola Briers (Third Year) and Matthew Bettany (Second Year) for their outstanding performance in Blackstone’s National Criminal Advocacy Competition.

According to founders, Hertfordshire Law School, ‘The National Criminal Advocacy Competition involves students undertaking a series of mock trials and pre-trial applications such as those relating to bail and character. The aim is to introduce undergraduates and GDL students to the more day-to-day advocacy activities and skills. It allows participants the chance to learn and develop different practical skills to those that can be obtained through mooting alone, and which will be common from the outset of your future legal career’.

Nicola and Matthew faced the University of Liverpool on Saturday the 24th February. After a closely fought battle, Derby emerged on top, narrowly beating the team from Liverpool. Blog posts on their experiences of the competition thus far, and how far they hope to go moving forward will be up shortly.

But for now, Derby Law School says congratulations!
